DETAILED ITINERARY - VOLCANOES AND NORHTERN LIGHTS OF ICELAND 

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO ICELAND

The trip starts with the arrival of your flight at Keflavík International Airport, followed by the pick up of the car at our rental office at the airport. The process of pick up with your voucher is fast. The vehicles have unlimited mileage and superior insurances already included. Choose the vehicle model you like for your trip in the booking platform.

The entrance fee to Blue Lagoon is included in your trip. Depending on your flight schedule you can proceed with the visit on the first day (as it is located 20 minutes from the airport) or you can visit it on the last day of your trip. The itinerary will be tailored to your needs.

Visiting the eruption zone: depending on your flight schedule and the evolution of the eruption the same day of your arrival you can consider the follwing options. First (if the area is safe) with the recommended itinerary you can visit the eruption zone on your own following the instructions at www.safetravel.is or arriving to Reykajvík you can take the helicopter flight over the volcano (this option can be booked at the following link and must be booked in advance because the demand is greater than the supply: https://viajesislandia.com/excursion-helicoptero-erupcion-volcan-fagradalsfjall Another option is to visit the eruption zone with one of our guided tours on the last days of your trip.

Arrival in the capital of Iceland. Visit Reykjavík with our tailor-made itinerary and accommodation in the center of the capital in a good 3*** hotel that we know personally. Restaurants and shopping options are in the immediate distance of the hotel. Night in the center of Reykjavík.

 DAY 2: SOUTH COAST OF ICELAND

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Sightseeing of the wonders of the south coast of Iceland with its enchanting waterfalls, large volcanoes and beautiful beaches. With our recommended itinerary you will visit Seljalansfoss waterfalls with the famous passage and its "sister waterfall" the hidden waterfall in the cave. You will also pass the great voclanoes Hekla and Eyjafjalajokull in the distance. You will stop for a while to experience the projection of eruptions in this area and the current volcanic eruption in Reykjanes with a 4K experience. Afterwards you will continue to Skógafoss, our favorite waterfall. We will recommend where to enjoy a very good lunch and then you will reach the lovely town of Vík. On the way you can also visit beautiful cliffs and the famous black sand beach. Passing the immense lava field of Eldhraun and Skejdarsandur you will reach the green canyon with the "Hidden People" and the Trolls.

Night in the south coast in the area near the Vatnajokull glacier. If there is good visibility the glacair can be seen from the hotel dining room and from some rooms. Optional dinner at the hotel. If there is good visibility you can observe the northern lights in the area. The hotel has a very favorable location to see the northern lights.

DAY 3: JOKULSARLON LAGOON AND EAST OF ICELAND 

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Fascinating amphibious boat tour among the icebergs included. With a little luck you can observe the seals in the glacial lagoon during the boat tour. You will also be able to taste the ice created thousands of years ago. At the end of the tour we recommend a visit to Diamond Beach to see if there are any ice chunks lying on the volcanic beach, because they look just like diamonds in the sun. After enjoying this "glacier show" you will head towards the fjords to enjoy the panoramic route. Passing Egilsstadir the route continues to the north of the island. 

Night in the northeast of Iceland in a traditional farm hotel with turf - roofed houses. In this area you can easily see arctic foxes. Some live on the farm which is a part of the hotel.

DAY 4: LAKE MÝVATN AND ITS BEAUTIES

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. The fourth day is another volcanic day for you. We recommend visiting the Krafla volcano area where you can make a short trekking to see the effects of eruptions in this area. Another must is a visit to Lake Mývatn and its surroundings. Do not miss the green pseudcraters with bird sanctuaries in the surroundings and the Lava Village called Dimmuborgir. 

Night in a nice eco hotel between Mývatn and Húsavík. Possibility to have dinner at the hotel or try to see the Northern Lights at night.

DAY 5: AKUREYRI, THE PEARL OF THE NORTH

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. View of other Mývatn Wonders or optional whale watching excursion. You can choose between three options. Classic boat from Húsavík, zodiac boat - speedboat from Húsavík or modern boat from Akureyri. On the way to Akureyri we recommend a visit to the Waterfall of the Gods. In Akureyri you can see the city center with wide choice of shopping and cultural activities.

Accommodation in a nice countryside hotel in the Akureyri area in beautiful nature and with available hot tub.

DAY 6: WEST OF ICELAND 

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Day of many options. You can decide whether to head west on road number one. Possible are visits to Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls or Langjokull glacier from Húsafell. Or if you rent a 4x4 car you could take the road to the interior of the island - the Kjollur route, road 35, if the wether permits it (info at www.road.is). Then you could visit the magical interior of the island, reaching Geysir and Gullfoss and then going towards your hotel on the south coast. 

Night on the south coast in hotel with thermal pool, jacuzzis -hot tub and sauna over the spring. 

DAY 7: REYKJAVÍK and NORTHERN LIGHTS

Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Visit of the famous Golden Circle according to the route chosen on day 6. Or relax in the thermal pool of the hotel. Afterwards you can experience the earthquake simulation and safely experience what the citizens of Hveragerdi experienced. Another possibility is to do the geothermal trekking in the area where you can bathe in hot springs in a beautiful geothermal valley. Or you can head to the Golden Circle if you have not visited it the day before. From your hotel (if you go direct it is only 45 minutes to the capital), then you even have the option to visit Blue Lagoon, Sky Lagoon over the cliff or take a helicopter flight. Optional activities will be recommended according to your flight schedule.

Evening tour with local guide and audio guide in English to observe the Northern Lights.

Accommodation int he capital of Iceland. Night in center of Reykjavík.

DAY 8: REYKJANES - KEFLAVÍK

Breakfast buffet at the hotel. According to your flight schedule we will plan a visit to the penisula of Reykjanes where you can see the actual eruption of the volcano Litli-Hrútur and where the beautiful geothermal spa of Blue Lagoon is located. Return of the vehicle at the international airport of Keflavík. End of the trip.

If the flight schedule does not suit you to be able to see the eruption with enough time .... or to be able to enjoy the Blue Lagoon (optional entrance), we can add one more night to the trip, so that you have enough time before your return flight.
